The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County plans to close the bridge on Virginia Street that goes over I-80 beginning on Thursday, July 9 for construction work on the Virginia Street Project. The bridge, which is located on Virginia Street between Maple Street and Eighth Street, west of Walgreens, will be closed to through traffic for approximately five weeks.
Detours will be in place during the closure. Northbound drivers and pedestrian traffic will be detoured to Center Street via Maple Street. Southbound drivers and pedestrian traffic will be detoured to Sierra Street via 9th Street.
Businesses in the area remain open and accessible. Business access between Eighth and Ninth Streets remains open.
The Virginia Street Project is set to be complete near the University of Nevada, Reno, this fall. The Midtown segment of the Virginia Street Project is anticipated to wrap up in August.

The Virginia Street Bus RAPID Transit Extension Project will improve safety and provide better access, enhanced transit service and improved mobility for everyone. This includes extending the RAPID Virginia Line from Midtown to the University of Nevada, Reno. The project represents an $87-million investment in our community.
The project is funded with fuel tax revenue, sales tax revenue, and federal funds.
