The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is continuing its Preventive Maintenance Program to keep area roadways in good condition. This week, three City of Sparks roadways will be slurry sealed as part of the program.
Drivers are asked to use extra caution in these work zones and follow signed detours, when necessary:
- Monday, August 19 and Tuesday, August 20: Rock Boulevard from Glendale to the Truckee River will be down to one lane in each direction from 5 p.m. – 6 a.m.
- Wednesday, August 21 and Thursday, August 22: Sparks Boulevard from Prater Way to the westbound I-80 ramp will be down to one lane in each direction from 7 p.m. – 5 a.m.
- Saturday, August 24: Highland Ranch Parkway will be closed to all traffic from Midnight Drive to Pyramid Highway from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Please use signed detours.
The RTC’s goal is to apply the most cost-effective treatment to the right pavements at the right time to minimize pavement-life-cycle costs and maximize serviceable pavement life. It is six to 10 times cheaper to properly maintain streets than to allow them to fail and pay for costly reconstruction treatments.
The RTC’s investment in the Preventive Maintenance Program for the entire Washoe County area for this fiscal year is $6.5 million.
