The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is planning to temporarily close part of Tahoe Street and part of St. Lawrence Avenue for approximately five days for utility work as part of the Virginia Street Project. The closures will take place on weekdays starting Wednesday, January 30 through approximately Tuesday, February 5.
Tahoe Street will be closed from St. Lawrence Avenue to Forest Street. St. Lawrence Avenue will be closed from Tahoe Street to Forest Street. During the closure, construction crews will have flaggers in place to assist customers driving to Peerless Dry Cleaners and Laughing Planet.
Additional temporary parking for this area is available in the marked parking lot behind the Ponderosa Hotel, near the intersection of Forest and Tahoe Streets.
The RTC encourages the community to support the Midtown businesses, which remain open and accessible during construction.
Construction operations are weather permitting.
About the project:
This more-than-$80-million investment in our community will create connectivity between Midtown Reno and the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), and will support economic development, enhance safety, and improve livability in the corridor.
The project addresses critical transportation needs including improving transit operations by extending the Virginia Line RAPID transit service to UNR, correcting ADA sidewalk deficiencies, improving traffic operations and beautifying the corridor. Up to 300 trees will be added to the corridor as part of the project.
The project is funded with fuel tax revenue, federal and private funds.
