As part of Bike to Work Week, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is offering free bus service for passengers who bring a bicycle. Free rides will be offered on RIDE and FlexRIDE but limited based on space on the bike racks. It will also be available on ACCESS based on safety and ability. This service will be offered from Monday, May 15 through Sunday, May 21.
May is National Bike Month, reminding people of the benefits of riding a bike for transportation. Riding a bike is good exercise and it also helps to reduce air pollution because bicyclists are a zero emission transportation option. It’s also a way to save money at the gas pump.
Reno and Sparks have a robust network of safe routes for bikes. The League of American Bicyclists has recently recognized the Truckee Meadows as a bike-friendly community.
The RTC is also promoting the Commuter Challenge. It’s a fun way to make this a team-building experience or a friendly competition with coworkers or friends. People can sign up on RTC Smart Trips and join the Bike Month Challenge 2023. All participants have to do is keep track of the number of miles traveled on a bike.
