UPDATE: To alleviate traffic concerns, the RTC is making some improvements to traffic control for this project.
- Starting Monday, October 21, the one-way traffic on North Hills Blvd. between Buck Dr. and Beckworth Dr. will be switched from southbound only to northbound only. This is anticipated to improve traffic circulation and keep from directing heavy traffic, including school traffic, to the Golden Valley/North Hills intersection. This section of North Hills Blvd. is expected to reopen to two-way traffic in three weeks.
- City of Reno has installed vehicle-detection equipment at the Golden Valley/North Hills intersection that will allow them to monitor and adjust the signal to improve traffic flow. This signal has also been retimed to help minimize traffic congestion.
- Lane closures on Golden Valley will be minimized as much as possible and the contractor will schedule operations to avoid working at the intersection as school is letting out in the afternoon.
- Two-way traffic will continue to be maintained between Golden Valley and Beckworth. It will be flagger controlled during construction hours.
Previous news release:
The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is planning to close the northbound lane of North Hills Blvd. from Beckworth Drive to Buck Drive for roadway reconstruction starting on the evening of Wednesday, October 9 through late October. Southbound traffic on North Hills Boulevard will remain open.
During this lane closure, the speed limit will be reduced to 25 miles per hour and the roadway will temporarily be paved with pulverized material until final paving operations take place.
Local businesses, including the North Hills Veterinary Clinic and Steak ‘n Shake, will remain open and accessible. Drivers should plan to access North Hills Boulevard from Buck Drive and travel southbound on North Hills Boulevard. Northbound traffic trying to enter North Hills Boulevard at Beckworth Drive will be detoured to Beckworth Drive to Golden Valley Road to US 395 northbound.
This closure will allow crews to safety reconstruct North Hills Boulevard.
