The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is in the process of installing a new traffic signal at the intersection of Pyramid Highway and Calle De La Plata in Spanish Springs. The RTC advises drivers to be aware of upcoming lane closures and night work as crews work to stripe the intersection.
On Sunday, September 30, Monday, October 1 and Tuesday, October 2, crews will be striping the intersection at night to minimize the impact on daytime traffic.
Night work is scheduled from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Drivers are asked to use extra caution in and around the intersection during this time. Two-way traffic will be maintained on Pyramid Highway, but drivers should be prepared to follow construction signs and instructions from traffic flaggers during brief nighttime periods of one-way-only traffic on Calle De La Plata.
Crews plan to start on the northwest side of the intersection, then work on the southwest corner, followed by the east side of the intersection.
With new developments and housing in the area surrounding the intersection, this signal will bring improved safety and traffic capacity to the intersection to better manage traffic congestion and travel delays. The intersection will include new pedestrian crosswalks, ADA-accessible ramps, and flashers placed ahead of the intersection.
The RTC anticipates the signal will be operational by mid-October 2018.
