The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is installing a new traffic signal at the intersection of Pyramid Highway and Calle De La Plata in Spanish Springs. As part of the traffic signal installation process, the RTC advises drivers to be aware of upcoming lane closures and night work.
– Monday, September 24 through Wednesday, September 26: Crews will start night work, in addition to daytime work, to complete the project more quickly. Day work is scheduled from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m., and night work is scheduled from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Drivers are asked to use extra caution in and around the intersection during this time.
– Monday, September 24 only: Pyramid Highway northbound will be restricted to one open lane only. Two-way traffic will be maintained, but drivers should be prepared to follow construction signs.
– Tuesday, September 25 only: Lane closures on Calle De La Plata eastbound and westbound. Two-way traffic will be maintained, but drivers should be prepared to follow construction signs and instructions from traffic flaggers.
– Wednesday, September 26 only: Pyramid Highway southbound will be restricted to one open lane only. Two-way traffic will be maintained, but drivers should be prepared to follow construction signs. In addition, the eastbound Calle De La Plata free right turn lane onto southbound Pyramid Highway will be closed and a detour will be in place.
Crews are scheduled to begin striping the new intersection on Sunday, September 30.
With new developments and housing in the area surrounding the intersection, this signal will bring improved safety and traffic capacity to the intersection to better manage traffic congestion and travel delays. The intersection will include new pedestrian crosswalks, ADA-accessible ramps, and flashers placed ahead of the intersection.
The RTC anticipates the signal will be operational by mid-October 2018.
