The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is installing a new traffic signal at the intersection of Lemmon Drive and North Virginia Street. The new signal is designed to improve safety and traffic flow at this intersection.
Construction to add the new signal poles to the intersection is expected to start on Friday, December 13, and the signal will turn on to traffic following installation, anticipated during the week of December 23, weather permitting.
Drivers can expect short-term lane closures during the installation process.
This project is part of the RTC’s North Valleys Improvement Project that is constructing needed improvements to pedestrian safety, driver safety, and intersection efficiency, as identified in the RTC’s North Valleys Regional Transportation Study.
This project represents part of a $5.1-million investment package of North Valleys improvements, paid for with RTC Fuel Tax funds and Regional Road Impact Fees (RRIF). As part of the project, RTC has already made pedestrian-safety improvements at four locations on Stead Boulevard, Silver Lake Road, Sky Vista Parkway, and Lemmon Drive, and installed traffic signals at Lemmon Drive/U.S. 395 and Red Rock Road/Moya Boulevard.
The RTC reminds the community to use caution when traveling near construction zones.
