The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County plans to intermittently close lanes on Lemmon Drive starting on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 so crews can do exploratory work under the roadway in preparation for potential future roadway construction that will improve safety and mobility on Lemmon Drive. During the exploratory work, the roadway will remain open to two-way traffic.
- November 12 – 22: Intermittent lane closures on Lemmon Drive between U.S. 395 and Military Road from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Two-way traffic will remain in place.
- November 18 – early December: Intermittent lane closures on Lemmon Drive between Fleetwood Drive and Chickadee Drive from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Flaggers will direct two-way traffic.
This exploratory work under the roadway is part of the RTC’s planned Lemmon Drive Capacity Project and crews will be performing on-site soil sampling, pavement sampling and surveying topography. The RTC is working closely with Washoe County and the City of Reno as the Swan Lake recovery plan continues and long-term mitigation alternatives are prepared and vetted. The RTC is streamlining the preliminary roadway design and partnering with local agencies in the overall program to improve conditions around Swan Lake.
As funding is identified, the RTC plans to widen Lemmon Drive from US 395 to Military Road from four to six lanes, and widen Lemmon Drive from Fleetwood Drive to Chickadee Drive from two to four lanes. Construction dates have not yet been identified.
