The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is continuing construction on the Greg Street rehabilitation project in Sparks. As part of the project, Greg Street will be closed to through traffic between McCarran Boulevard and Franklin Way beginning Friday, August 7 at 7 p.m. until Monday, August 10 at 5 a.m. for paving operations.
During paving operations, eastbound traffic on Greg Street will be detoured at Franklin Way to Glendale Avenue to McCarran Boulevard to Greg Street. Westbound traffic on Greg Street will be detoured at McCarran Boulevard to Glendale Avenue to Franklin Way to Greg Street.
Business-access traffic will be maintained on Greg Street between Franklin Way and the train tracks near Spice Island Drive. A traffic flagger will help direct residents in and out of the Apollo Mobile Home Park. All business and residential traffic should enter from the Greg Street/Franklin Way intersection.
About the Greg Street Project:
The project includes the rehabilitation Greg Street from McCarran Boulevard to the railroad tracks just east of Spice Island Drive. The community is invited to view a brief virtual video presentation about the project online. The five-week project is expected to be complete by mid August.
The pavement in this section of Greg Street has deteriorated and needs to be rehabilitated. As part of the project, the RTC is adding new sidewalks between McCarran Boulevard and Spice Island Drive and improving pedestrian ramps and crosswalks. This segment of Greg Street will be smoother and safer when the improvements are complete.
The RTC reminds the community to use extra caution in and around construction zones for the safety of drivers, pedestrians, and construction crews.
The project represents a $1.75-million investment in our community.
