The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is reminding the community to continue to patronize Midtown-area businesses during construction. As an incentive for people to visit Midtown businesses, the RTC is asking the community to share their Midtown experiences on social media using the hashtag #VirginiaStreetProject. For each publicly visible Facebook or Instagram post with a photo using that hashtag, RTC’s contractor, Sierra Nevada Construction (SNC), will donate one turkey to people in need this Thanksgiving.
SNC will purchase up to 40 turkeys from Save Mart on Plumb Lane and donate the turkeys to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.
The community is asked to share their Midtown experience on social media on or before Thursday, November 15 for the turkey donation.
The hashtag #VirginiaStreetProject will continue throughout construction. People who post using the hashtag after November 15 will be eligible for a chance to receive a Midtown business gift card.
About the Virginia Street Bus RAPID Transit Extension project:
This more-than-$80-million investment in our community will create connectivity between Midtown Reno and the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), and will support economic development, enhance safety, and improve livability in the corridor.
The project addresses critical transportation needs including improving transit operations by extending the Virginia Line RAPID transit service to UNR, correcting ADA sidewalk deficiencies, improving traffic operations and beautifying the corridor. Up to 300 trees will be added to the corridor as part of the project.
The project is funded with fuel tax revenue, federal and private funds.
