The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is set to start construction on a new transit station on the east side of Virginia Street about 500 feet south of Plumb Lane on Monday, July 27. Construction is anticipated to take about three months to complete.
Drivers can expect minor lane closures on Virginia Street during construction. Starting Monday, July 27, through Wednesday, July 29, traffic will be down to one northbound lane on Virginia Street near the construction zone. Starting July 30 through the end of the project, Virginia Street will have two northbound traffic lanes near the construction zone. Southbound traffic will not be affected.
The new transit station will be used for the RTC’s RAPID Virginia Line, which is planned to connect Meadowood Mall with the University of Nevada, Reno, when it launches on its new route in 2021 upon completion of the Virginia Street Project. This transit station is anticipated to encourage future Park Lane-development residents to use transit.
The RTC reminds the community to use extra caution in and around construction zones for the safety of drivers, pedestrians, and construction crews.
The project represents a $721,000 investment in our community.
