The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is beginning the design of phase one of the Lemmon Drive Project and invites the community to learn more by viewing a virtual video presentation online at NorthValleysImprovements.com/Lemmon-Drive/. This online presentation will be in place of a physical meeting to comply with Governor Sisolak’s March 22 emergency directive on public meetings.
On the website, the community is able to watch a brief video presentation and provide comments through a submission form online. The community will be able to view the presentation and submit comments through June 18, 2020.
The project will increase capacity, improve safety, and provide multimodal transportation choices. Phase one of the project will widen Lemmon Drive from four lanes to six lanes from Sky Vista Parkway/Buck Drive to Military Road. Along with widening the roadway, the proposed design will improve traffic flow and account for future traffic growth at both the Sky Vista Parkway and Military Road intersections. As an example, left turn lanes will get longer to move vehicles through intersections more safely and effectively.
To improve safety and reduce crashes along this busy corridor, a continuous raised median will prevent left turns into or out of businesses. U-turn movements will be accommodated at Military Road.
For pedestrians and bicyclists, the proposed design includes a separated, 10-foot-wide, shared-use path along the west side of Lemmon Drive, and an adjoining sidewalk along the east side and bike lanes in both directions.
Phase one of this project represents an approximate $10-million investment in our community funded with local fuel-tax revenue. Construction on phase one is anticipated to begin in spring 2021.
