October 10, 2019

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is continuing the transformation of Virginia Street. There will be some upcoming changes to your commute as you head to Midtown Reno.

Starting Monday, October 14, the RTC will close Center Street at Virginia Street. Drivers can also expect intermittent closures on Mary Street at Virginia Street. These closures will be in place so crews can begin construction on the roundabout at this intersection. Crews will sequence this work by completing underground utility improvements on Mary Street first, then concrete sidewalks. The roundabout will be constructed in two sections (east then west) to maintain southbound traffic on Virginia Street. During construction, drivers can expect closures and detours on Mary Street and Center Street. The entire construction of the roundabout will take approximately six months.

During the closure, northbound through traffic will be detoured from Holcomb Avenue to Center Street to Liberty Street. Drivers can also use northbound Haskell Street to Martin Street to Virginia Street. Side streets, including Cheney Street, Moran Street, and Stewart Street, are also open for Midtown-business access. Detour Map available here.

Businesses will always remain accessible. We encourage everyone to visit Midtown destinations and support businesses during construction. The project is currently on schedule.
