The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County held a special meeting today to interview five candidates for the RTC Executive Director position. The RTC Board selected Bill Thomas, current City of Reno Assistant City Manager, to lead the RTC.
“Bill Thomas successfully received unanimous support from the entire board,” said RTC Chairman Bob Lucey. “We had a strong candidate pool of well-qualified candidates, all of whom would have been a great leader for the RTC.”
The RTC Board received communications from the community, council members, local government and RTC staff about the attributes and experience the next executive director should possess. The RTC Board provided ample time to receive input and the comments received were taken into consideration for the selection of a new executive director.
The candidate-selection process was open and transparent and today’s public meeting was a continuation of this process. The RTC Board listened to the community and to all the candidates, which helped the RTC Board select the best individual for our community and the leadership of the RTC.
The RTC Board gave legal counsel direction to begin negotiation of an employment agreement that will be brought to the RTC Board meeting on March 20, 2020.
“The RTC Board extends its appreciation to Amy Cummings who is serving as the RTC Interim Executive Director during the transition,” said Lucey.
