RTC CITICENTER CLOSED AS  RTC 4TH STREET STATION OPENED

RTC CITICENTER, the 24-year-old transit center in downtown Reno, permanently closed at 12:15 a.m. on Sunday Oct.31. The next bus departed the new RTC 4TH STREET STATION at 1:04 a.m. Sunday. Passengers should note that all transit trips are now from the new station.

The agency also debuted eight new 60-foot RTC RAPID accordion-style vehicles on Virginia Street’s bus rapid transit corridor between Meadowood Mall and downtown. The coaches are sleek, comfortable diesel-electric hybrids. For information, call 348-RIDE.

RTC PLAN2RIDE

RTC and its consultant Parsons Brinckerhoff are beginning the study called the Transit System Analysis that will assess ways to improve transit options, reduce traffic congestion and contribute to economic growth in the area.  The study will focus on how transit systems operate, potential new transit services, public input on transit priorities and possible new routes or changes to existing routes. Think Transit Public Service Campaign

Many acts of driving under the influence are committed by young men, ages 19-25. As part of the RTC’s grant with the Nevada Strategic Highway Safety Plan, a public service campaign targeting this demographic is being broadcast on Fox 11 TV in May and June and online on foxreno.com. The TV and online ads will be complimented with two vinyl wraps on RTC CONNECT and RTC SIERRA SPIRIT buses.

The campaign message -- Don’t Drink and Drive. Think Transit -- features blurred images evoking the distorted images a person under the influence might see when trying to drive inebriated.

The television spots will air through the end of June. The bus wraps will remain in place through the summer. The PSA is also posted on rtcwashoe.com on the Transit Rider News page.
