Transportation Funding

The Truckee Meadows has experienced dynamic growth over the last several years. The population growth in Washoe County is expected to reach 620,000 by the year 2030. As a result of this growth, our region is facing funding challenges to meet our transportation needs today and into the future, to maintain and build new roads and maintain and expand our public transportation system.

The funding outlook through the year 2040 projects a $1.09 billion shortfall for public transportation and a $4.8 billion shortfall for street and highway congestion relief projects. Washoe County ballot questions RTC-2 for Public Transit and RTC-5 for Streets and Highways are two measures that would provide funding mechanisms to adequately fund and sustain our public transportation system and street and highway projects.

Public education of the region’s transportation funding issues was conducted through October 2008.
